PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can prevent the torsional deformation of an image forming medium immediately after starting an image forming process and loss of the image forming medium caused by the generation of a large marginal space at the tip end, and can improve processing capacity without carrying the image forming medium reciprocatingly. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a paper storage section 40 for storing long size papers, a carrying mechanism for carrying the papers along a carrying route, an image forming section 50 capable of forming an image on the papers, and a control means for making the image forming section 50 operate to form an image while carrying the papers supplied from the paper storage section 40 with the carrying mechanism. The apparatus is furthermore provided with a securing mechanism 90 which secures near the tip end part of the papers supplied from the paper storage section 40 on the upperstream side of the carrying route further than the image forming section 50 and carries the papers at least from the image forming section 50 to the downstream side of the carrying route in a state of holding near the tip end.
