The cushion is molded in a foamable material and comprises a cushion area(204,206) and one or more functional areas(202). A prefabricated skin(208) forming the functional area is joined to the cushion area. In a first process step a prefabricated skin(208) forming the functional area(202) is placed in a tool and foam(204,206) molded onto the rear side. Different foam materials may be molded onto various areas of the skin and the functional area connects the cushion areas of different materials. Functional areas may act as fastening points, holding points, stabilizing areas or flow channels for the cushion. In a process variation the foamed cushion areas may be molded first and the skin applied onto the foam, preferably by spraying.
