In knitting a multi-stocking toe two plies 20, 25 are knit by alternate needles whereafter bights of yarn are engaged by diol bits 26 while a third ply 27, including a draw string 37 is knitted. A further portion of the third ply is knitted before the string is tightened and wrapped around the closure. The draw yarn may be incorporated into the tab knit to join the plies or may be severed beforehand. The inner ply may be reinforced after a few courses. Spandex yarn may be knit in the joining tab. |
