PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map distribution apparatus capable of reducing the number of times of communication. SOLUTION: The map distribution apparatus is constituted to store map information, receive the present position of a navigation apparatus and distribute the map information to the navigation apparatus. When the present position and a forward branch point on a road on which a vehicle is traveling are included in the map information of an area including the present position as a reference position and having a prescribed area, the map information of the area including the present position as the reference position and having the prescribed area is distributed, and when the branch point is not included in the map information of the area including the present position as the reference position and having the prescribed area, but by changing the reference position, the present position and the branch point are included in the area having the prescribed area, the map information of an area which does not set the present position as a reference position but includes the present position and the branch point is distributed.
