PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge which can surely prevent idling of a printer head due to an ink shortage by making the ink cartridge quickly replaced at a time point when an ink liquid of a specified amount in a cartridge body is used up. SOLUTION: A level of the ink liquid 5 stored in an ink storage chamber 6 of the cartridge body 3 is covered liquid-tightly by a partitioning film 14 which moves while being guided by an inner peripheral wall 6b of the ink storage chamber 6. A head protecting liquid 18 with a coloring capability different from that of the ink liquid 5 is stored in the ink storage chamber 6 via the partitioning film 14. When a residual quantity of the ink liquid 5 in the ink storage chamber 6 becomes the specified amount or smaller and the partitioning film 14 moves to a predetermined position, a partitioning releasing mechanism 16 breaks the partitioning film 14.
