PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem wherein the output signal cannot recognized from that in the ordinary drive mode, if an optical black region is made symmetrically in the vertical and horizontal directions for an effective pixel region, because the signal of equal number of pixels are outputted to both optical black region and effective pixel region even in any drive mode of the vertical inversion or horizontal inversion. SOLUTION: In the CMOS image sensor wherein symmetry of physical image of a pixel array 12 formed of an effective pixel region 122 and an OPB region 123 is maintained, the symmetry of physical image of the pixel array 12 is destroyed, and the output signal is recognized from the ordinary drive mode, even in any of the drive modes for vertical inversion and horizontal inversion by injecting charges to a partial pixels in the OPB non-inquiring region 123B (pixel injecting pixel 123C) and by outputting the signal based on the relevant charges.
