PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester-based fiber for artificial hair excellent in flame retardance, setting property, drip resistance, transparency and resistance to delustering while keeping physical properties of fiber such as heat resistance and strong elongation which conventional polyester fibers have and having controlled gloss of fiber and to provide an artificial hair by using the fiber. SOLUTION: The flame-retardant polyester-based fiber for artificial hair is obtained by melt-spinning a composition obtained by melt-kneading (A) 100 pts.wt. polyester comprising a polyalkylene terephthalate and/or a copolyester mainly composed of the polyalkylene terephthalate with (B) 3-30 pts.wt. phosphorus-containing flame retardant or a composition obtained by mixing the above composition with (C) organic fine particles and/or (D) inorganic fine particles.
