1286199 Penicillins BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 19 April 1971 [16 March 1970] 12508/70 Heading C2A A process for reducing the water content of 6-(D-α-amino-p-hydroxypheynlacetamido) penicillanic acid trihydrate comprises treating the trihydrate with a lower alkanol, e.g. methanol or ethanol, and separating the resultant undissolved material. Also, a method for the preparation of sodium or potassium 6-(D-α-amino-phydroxyphenylacetamido) penicillanate comprises treating the separated undissolved material mentioned above in an inert organic liquidwith an organic amine to form a solution of the corresponding amine salt of the penicillanic acid, and thereafter adding a sodium or potassium compound to precipitate the required sodium or potassium salt of the penicillanic acid. The potassium salt of 6-(D-α-amino-p-hydroxypheylacetamido) penicillanic acid is claimed per se. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 978,178. |
