<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively regenerate a NOx occlusion reduction catalyst occluding NOx, by performing a necessary and sufficient quantity of post injection without diluting engine oil on cylinder inner wall surfaces. <P>SOLUTION: NOx absorbent and active metal are carried in a NOx storage reduction catalyst 16 provided in an exhaust passage 14 of an engine 11, and fuel is supplied to the NOx storage reduction catalyst 16 by adding fuel with a fuel adding means 17 into the exhaust gas in the exhaust passage 14. This fuel adding means 17 is an accumulator type fuel injector performing the post injection at a timing that does not allow the fuel to ignite inside a cylinder 22 following a main injection to the cylinder 22 of the engine 11. In addition, the device is configured so that the post injection by the accumulator type fuel injector 17 is performed dividedly in 3-20 injections during the latter part of an expansion stroke of the engine 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
