<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which prevents the occurrence of abnormal images due to products generated along with charging operations and which can perform proper printing. <P>SOLUTION: A charging member 22 and a developing roller 33 come into slide contact with a latent image bearing member 20 while rotatiting at respective peripheral speeds V22 and V33 that are different from a peripheral speed V20 of the image bearing member 20. Due to the frictional force produced at upstream side one of the two slide contact positions in the rotating direction D20 of the latent image bearing member 20, that is, at a development position Pdv, a product DPC that is sticking on a surface of the latent image bearing member 20 is scraped and becomes a chip shape and this chip-shaped product DPC becomes a floating state above the surface. The chip-shaped product DPC, carried from the upstream side slide contact position, is recovered by the charging member 22 on the downstream side slide contact position (recovery step).
