PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user-friendly ink-jet recorder for preventing a printing from getting blurred with inks being shortage suddenly caused by releasing an ink-less error signal without changing an ink tank. SOLUTION: When the ink-less error signal is indicated, an ink-less timer is started. The time information of the ink-less timer starting is stored in a non-volatile memory, and the time from this timing is measured and compared. Even before the time reaches the threshold value of the ink-less error signal, if exceeding the designated time, the ink-less error signal is made to be generated and the user is requested to change the ink tank.
