PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit for displaying a thumbnail by suppressing a load to the unit; and to provide a thumbnail display method, a thumbnail display program, and a recording medium with the program recorded thereon. SOLUTION: The image processing unit has a display means for displaying the thumbnail of an image corresponding to image data, and an image data storage means for storing the image data. The image processing unit comprises an image data storage means for storing image data for a thumbnail corresponding to the thumbnail displayed by the display means, a generation means for generating the image data for the thumbnail from the image data stored in the image data storage means, a transfer means for transferring the generated image data for the thumbnail to the image data storage means from the image data storage means, and a determination means for determining whether the image data for the thumbnail are transferred by using the transmission means. When the determination means determines that the image data for the thumbnail are not transferred, the display means displays a held image for indicating that the display of the thumbnail of an image corresponding to the image data has been held.
