PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable detection of four corners (corner portions) accurately at a high speed, even when the outer side of a white board area or a document area is distorted. SOLUTION: From an image for analysis including a white board as an object image, a quadranglar edge image is generated by extracting edges derived from the white board. A first to a fourth image information acquisition areas 9a-9d are set so that each of the four corners derived from the corners thereof are separately included in each of the four images. Based on the divided edge images in each of the first to the fourth image information acquisition areas 9a-9d, lines ha-hd in the horizontal direction constituting the above corners and lines va-vd in the vertical direction are detected. Then, cross points Qa-Qd of the above lines are obtained. A quadrangle area obtained by connecting the above cross points Qa-Qd is detected as a specific area corresponding to the white board.
