PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-strength reinforcing material for expansion molding suitable as a cushioning material composed of a nonwoven fabric having water repellency while ensuring air permeability. SOLUTION: The reinforcing material is obtained by providing a water-repellent processing layer in a nonwoven fabric prepared by entangling filaments. The reinforcing material is characterized in that the weight of the nonwoven fabric is 30-600 g/m<SP>2</SP>and the degree of water repellency on at least the one surface side of the nonwoven fabric is≥2 scores. The quantity of airflow of the reinforcing material for the expansion molding is preferably 30-800 cc/cm<SP>2</SP>/s.
