PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity and maintenance performance of a film splicing device. SOLUTION: Laser beam is radiated to both end parts of a superposed part of a preceding film Fa with a subsequent film Fb. Transmitted light is received to detect received light widthα<SB>n</SB>,β<SB>n</SB>of the laser beam. The films Fa and Fb are relatively moved to each other in the width direction for aligning in such a way that total value (total received light width) of the detected widthα<SB>n</SB>,β<SB>n</SB>is equal to a reference value as total received light width when transmitted light is received similarly as the laser beam is radiated to both end parts of a single film, and the films Fa and Fb are spliced with each other.
