<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing lens element and an optical pickup apparatus with it which has interchangeability for recording/reproducing of a plurality of kinds of optical disks, in which Rim strength being suitable for recording/reproducing of respective optical disks are secured, and in which light utilizing efficiency can be improved more. <P>SOLUTION: This optical pickup apparatus 100 is provided with a light source 13, and an objective lens 11 converging light emitted from the light source 13 on a first recording layer 12a or 12b of an optical disk 12, and a polarized luminous flux converting part 60 converting a luminous flux diameter in accordance with a polarization direction of linearly polarized light is provided between the light source 13 and the objective lens 11.
