PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To take out an image signal having a high S/N ratio, where exposure time is simultaneous in all pixels when performing high-speed imaging, such as a signal for strobe light control, a signal for AF, an electron view finder, and animation-like photographing. SOLUTION: The pixel comprises a photoelectric conversion section, an accumulator for accumulating a signal generated at the photoelectric converter, a transfer switch means for controlling charge transfer to the accumulator from the photoelectric converter, a reset switch means for resetting the accumulator, an amplifier with the potential of the accumulator as input, and a selection switch means for selecting the amplification section. A solid-state image pickup device two-dimensionally has the pixel in column and row directions. In the solid-state image pickup device, all pixels are reset collectively in a photoelectric conversion element, the accumulation time of the signal is started and then completed, signal charge is transferred to the accumulation section, and the signal for the first row or column and a second row or column is subtracted for obtaining the signal for one row or one column in successive read operation.
