PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently use a plurality of reading/recording heads to perform recording and reading with a high speed using time sharing processing. SOLUTION: In a recording and reproducing device, reading/recording heads 105-1 and 105-2 are disposed within a range of operation speed as shown in dotted lines, wherein each of them performs recording or reading with respect to each of areas #1 and #2 on a recording medium 11 in a right direction in the figure (outer circumferential direction of the recording medium 11) each. Furthermore, the reading/recording head 105-1 is disposed in a position shown by a solid line at the next timing. Then, the reading/recording heads 105-1 and 105-2 disposed in the positions shown by the solid lines perform recording or reading with respect to areas #1' and #2' respectively.
