PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel preparation method which prepares a salicylic ester in a high yield, does not cause such a problem in handling as the occurrence of deposition in a distillation residue after reaction, and enables the reutilization of a catalyst used. SOLUTION: In the method for preparing a salicylic ester for a perfume, a lower alkyl ester of salicylic acid is subjected to transesterification with an alcohol of which at least one carbon atom adjacent to a carbon atom having a hydroxy group has at least one hydrogen atom.
