<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable generator-capacity reducing device that makes it possible to select a low-capacity generator, cuts fuel consumption, and reduces harmful substances including carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, and suspended particulate matters. <P>SOLUTION: This is the generator-capacity reducing device 30 connected between a generator 10 and a load apparatus 20. An electric circuit 31 includes a metering current transformer 32 that detects a synthesized current Is of a load current Im and a control current Ie; a detection portion 33 that detects apparent, effective, and reactive power, power factor, and frequency; a control portion 34 that determines an electric power value and a frequency value; a switching device 36 that switches on and off; a plurality of phase advance capacitors 37; and a protective circuit 39 that protects the electric circuit 31 and the generator 10 against malfunctions. By controlling the 'on-off' of the connection of the phase advance capacitor 37, the phase of a current that is conducted to the load apparatus 20 is controlled.
