PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for appropriately operating an electric power storage system according to the state of an electric load so that power cost minimization can be easily achieved. SOLUTION: In an operation method for an electric power storage system, a load following threshold value 32 is variably set on a time period-by-time period basis, the power difference of the received power 31 of a power customer (before the operation method for an electric power storage system of the present invention is applied) from the load following threshold value 32 is determined, and charging or discharging is controlled, based on the determined power difference.
