The life of switching contacts is improved by the deposition of multiple thin layers. The first layer (0.001-1 mu) contains a non metallic substance: C, graphite Si, P, S, or a metal oxide- which may form a complete layer or else be finely dispersed in a metal such as gold. The outer layer, 0.1 to 5 mu is a R or Rh. Plane erosion instead of cratering occurs, life is increased and contact bounce reduced.
|
