PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for disabling a magnetic disk apparatus provided with a magnetic disk and a head reading data from the magnetic disk, and an information processing apparatus which can perform the method. SOLUTION: A magnetic head 215 is moved on a cylinder of the innermost periphery (step S201). A spindle motor is controlled so that the number of times of rotation per a unit hour of a platter 21 become the prescribed number of times of rotation or less, (step S202) and the surface of the magnetic head 215 and the surface of the platter 210 comes into contact with each other (step S203). The magnetic head 210 being in contact with the surface of the platter 210 is moved to the cylinder of the outermost periphery from the cylinder of the innermost periphery while keeping a state in which it is in contact with the platter 210 (step S204).
