PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein temperature detection resolution at an optimal temperature cannot be satisfactory when bits of a digital control device are evenly allocated in all the temperature range in the following conditions: a thermistor is used for a cooling water temperature sensor of an automobile engine because of its reliability and economic efficiency and hard to be replaced by any other things; however, the temperature characteristic of the thermistor is nonlinear over a range of engine use temperature and voltage change per unit temperature change is small especially in an engine optimal temperature (high temperature). SOLUTION: A cooling system controller, provided with an output voltage amplifier 106 of the water temperature sensor 103, carries out processing with a signal not through the amplifier 106 at a low temperature and with an amplified signal having the voltage change per unit temperature increased at a high temperature so as to improve the detection solution at the high temperature. Water temperature deviation to a target water temperature can be reduced while the response at the time of changing the water temperature can be improved by improving the water temperature detection resolution, which can improve fuel economy of the engine.
