PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earthquake detection method for doors, etc. in which a ball moves to the lock position by shaking but is not kept there, and still secures the same lock effects as it is kept there, and to provide a shelf equipped with antiearthquake measures using this method. SOLUTION: In this earthquake detection method, the length of a lock area A8 having a linear vibration area is made longer than the diameter of a ball 9 so that the time when the ball stay at the lock area A8 is longer than the time when it stays at a stabilized position A9. The ball is moved to the lock position in accordance with a time lag (delay) of the open/close wave form of a door or the like from earthquake vibration wave form, but the lock can be secured to the same degree as holding the ball at the lock position without doing so.
