1,231,953. Mercury cathode cells. FRIEDRICH UHDE G.m.b.H. June 9, 1969 [June 8, 1968], No.28979/69. Heading C7B. A horizontal mercury cathode electrolytic cell is provided with a cell cover 2, movably sealed to the cell trough 5 e.g. by elastic strips 6 of foil, and the graphite anodes 1 therein are mounted on profiles 3 that stiffen the cell cover and are connected to transverse carriers 4, the cover being supported relatively to the cell bottom by adjusting spindles 7 driven by motors 14, arranged at the ends of the carriers to adjust the electrode spacing in the cell. Each spindle may comprise a stationary externally screw-threaded portion projecting upwardly from the cell base which co-operates with an internally screw-threaded sleeve which supports one end of a transverse carrier. |
