[Also in Divisions C4-C5] Oxidized montan wax and esterification products thereof are purified by stirring a melt of the oxidized wax with water before, during or after esterification, distilling the water, carrying out or completing the esterification as necessary, and filtering the melt. Preferably the melt is stirred at 80-150‹ C. with 0À01-10% by wt. of water, which is then distilled off in a stream of air or nitrogen. In examples, montan wax which has been oxidized with bichromate and sulphuric acid is used, glycol or butylone glycol being employed for esterification. |
