[Also in Division D1] The invention comprises compounds of the general formula in which R is an alkyl group having at least 7 carbon atoms or an alkylphenyl radical, m is 2-6, n is 0-10 and X is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl. The compounds in which n is 1-10 may be prepared by (a) reacting an alcohol or alkyl phenol of formula ROH with an alkylene oxide carrying a substituent X to give the compound (b) reacting the product of (a) with phosgene to give a compound and (c) reacting this chlorocarbonate with an amine HN(C m H 2m OH) 2 to give the required compound. When n is 0 the alcohol ROH is reacted with phosgene and the chlorocarbonate formed is reacted with an amine as in (c). |
