PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve usability by making the operating modes of optional devices connected to a plurality of image forming devices specifiable. SOLUTION: When an image forming section CPU 5 receives a signal indicating the change of the paper ejection mode of a paper ejection option 12 and mode change information from external computers 20A to 20C, the image forming device sends the mode change information as it is to a paper ejection option CPU 14 by using a communication line 7 without checking the detail of the mode change information. The paper ejection option 12 changes its own paper ejection mode on the basis of the mode change information received and changes a display to confirm the operating mode on an operation panel 18 by using the communication line 7 and a communication line 19. Specifically the image forming device performs the action of rewriting information in the storage area of a memory (not illustrated) provided in the operation panel and storing the detail of the display.
