The device has a grab mechanism (9) e.g. fork lift, and a set of stock yards (3) provided in horizontal rows. The stock yards are arranged one above the other and next to each other. A lowest row of the stock yard is movable independently in horizontal direction. Each horizontal row above the lowest row comprises a free space so that the stock yard is relocatable. The grab mechanism is movable in horizontal and vertical directions.
