A process is described for the preparation of carbamates of primary and/or secondary polyamines, which process comprises the steps vaporising a primary and/or secondary polyamine and reacting said vaporised primary and/or secondary polyamine with gaseous carbon dioxide. In particular, the process relates to the production of the carbamates of hexamethylenediamine, 1,4 diaminocyclohexane and 3-aminomethyl-3,5,5trimethylcyclohexylamine.
