<p>Flame retardant thermosetting resins. These are prepared by (a) mixing an alkyl hydrogen phosphate ester and an unsaturated carboxylic acid with a halogen containing polyepoxide resin; (b) reacting the mixture until the acid content expressed as -COOH falls below 1% by weight. The alkyl phosphate has the formula (RO)-x PO(OH)-(OR1OH)y, where R is 1-5C alkyl or CH2=CR2.CO.OR3-where R2 is H or CH3 and R3 is a bivalent alkyl group of 2-4C atoms, R1=R3 or is a bivalent halogenated alkyl group of 2-4C atoms; and when x=1, y=1 and when x=2, y=0.</p> |
