<p>Process for chemically bonding a polymeric dye to a substrate contg. a series of C-H bonds, pref. polyethylene, by (a) applying to the substrate a layer of the dye and 1-15 wt.% (based on the dye) of a sulphazide of formulae (I) or (II) (where R1 is a gp. of formula (III); A is an aliphatic alcohol residue satd. with m OH gps. and a m.wt. 300; m is 2-6; R is lower alkyl or halogen; x is 1 or 2; y is 0,1 or 2; x+y is not >3; m is >=2 when x is 1 in (I); the SO2N3 gps. are attached to the 3,4 or 5 posns; R is attached to at least one 3,4, or 5 posn. of each unsatd. benzene ring) and (b) exposing the covered substrate to a radiation source to activate the sulphonazide and chemically bond the dye to the substrate.</p> |
