The movable disc 14 of an expanding pulley is connected to the fixed disc 12 by key members each consisting of a series of roller bearing elements 18 mounted in complementary semicircular grooves 10a, 16a in the respective members and held against a shoulder in disc 14 by a retaining ring 20, so as to be movable with the disc but also capable of independent continual adjustment under load to avoid fretting corrosion. Ring 20 carries groove sweepers 22 which serve to keep grooves 10a free of foreign matter and also retain lubricant in the bearing space. A collar 26 mounted on a bearing 24 is operable by a control lever to adjust the axial position of disc 14. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the discs 12, 14 are loaded by a helical spring (40).</p> |
