[Also in Division G5] Apparatus for adsorbing a radio-active substance on an ion exchanger or for exposing a liquid to irradiation comprises an annular vessel 1 for a granular ion exchanger, an inlet or inlets 3a, 3b, an outlet or outlets 4a, 4b, a radiation shield 2, and a pipe 6 passing through the apparatus. As shown, the vessel 1 comprises two semi-annular hollow sections. By passing a concentrated solution of fission products through inlets 3a, 3b, radio-active caesium may be adsorbed on resin granules, the coil 6 being used to supply heat. Alternatively, a liquid may be passed through coil 6 and irradiated by a radio-element adsorbed on an ion exchanger in vessel 1.</p> |
