1333326 Stripping tyre carcasses from building drums GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 25 May 1971 [6 July 1970] 16911/71 Heading B7C Apparatus for stripping tyre carcasses from building drums comprises a conveyer having endless chains 36, 38 by means of which a drum is transported by its centre shaft 20 into a first position defined by raised arms 320 which halt progress of the drum, the latter being then raised by V-blocks 220 into a second position in which spindles 100, 140 extend inwardly to engage the ends of the shaft 20; pads 230, 232 on arms 236 then grasp the carcass and a drive shaft within spindle 140 engages a worm shaft within shaft 20 such that rotation thereof causes blocks, connected by links to the drum segments 52, 62, to move outwardly with consequential radial inward movement of the segments, the carcass being then moved to one side over spindle 100, and the drum after re-expansion moved by the V- blocks back onto the conveyer. The carcass is then returned to its central position and dropped onto a slide 350. The arms 320, V- blocks 220, spindles 100, 140 and carrier 270 mounting arms 236 are all powered by fluid motors with the movement of the V-blocks being synchronized by a rack and pinion arrangement. Safety mechanisms 330 prevent withdrawal of the spindles 100, 140 while the latter are supporting a drum and until the V- blocks are raised to engage the drum shaft. The pads 230, 232 grasp the carcass at the axial ends thereof and are moved into and out of their gripping position by the pivotal movement of arms 236 caused by fluid motors 288 synchronized by gears 280. The carriage 270 mounting the arms 236 moves on rails 260. |
