1291546 Tyre building apparatus GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 25 May 1971 [6 July 1970] 16910/71 Heading B7C [Also in Division B8] A tyre building apparatus comprises a plurality of work stations A-E (Figs. 1A and 1B), a plurality of tyre building drum assemblies 20 releasably connected to a continuously movable conveyer 12, comprising a pair of parallel spaced apart loops of roller chain 26, by means of co-operably engageable means on each of the drum assemblies and on the conveyer, and stop meansselectively engageable with each drum assembly to stop the same at any location, in order to allow a tyre building operation to be performed on it, without stopping the conveyer. The co-operably engageable means comprises, in the case of each drum assembly, a bearer 180 mounted at each end of a centre shaft 174 and in the case of the conveyer, a multiplicity of seats 27 formed in the upwardly facing edges of the side bar links of the chain. Each work station has associated with it at least one stop means comprising a pair of swingably mounted arms, e.g. 275 at work station A to engage the drum assembly and at least one holding station, each station may have associated with it a pair of drum lifters 295 to disengage and engage the drum assembly and the conveyer. A system of switches and relays (Fig. 6, not shown) are provided between the stations to prevent a drum assembly at a particular station being advanced to the next station until that station is ready to receive it. The tyre building apparatus also includes a transfer system (Figs. 1A and 1B) comprising a transfer conveyer 14, disposed above the conveyer 12, an elevating device 15 and a lowering device 16, the system being used to transfer the drum assemblies with a tyre carcass thereon from the last working station to the first working station in the operating sequence thereof. |
