PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical inflating/shrinking drive device which needs no replace drive part even when a balloon catheter of a different capacity is replaced, is light weight and has an easily controllable time schedule for the replacement of the drive parts, and also capable of correctly reducing the cardiac output assistance rate comparatively easily in accordance with the recovery condition of the physical function of a patient as well as a method for using the device. SOLUTION: This medical inflating/shrinking drive device consists of a pressure transfer diaphragm device 40 for alternately applying a positive pressure and a negative pressure to piping 18 communicating with a balloon 22 so that the inflation and shrinking of the balloon 22 is repeated, a pressure sensor 15 for detecting the internal pressure of the piping 18, a gas replenishing device 60 for detecting the pressure of the piping 18 at a timing for switching the balloon 22 from a shrinking state to an inflating state with the held of the pressure sensor 15, and replenishing gas to the piping 18 so that the detected pressure reaches a specified value, and a control means 10 for changing the specified value. |
