Apparatus for the manipulation of used tyres for inspection before retreading comprises a raisable table 1 including two drivable rollers 13 on which a tyre is supported and may be rotated, and two clamping and spreading tools 31, in the form of conical rollers, which may be moved horizontally together or apart by piston and cylinder assemblies. A tyre to be inspected is placed on the table in the position shown in Fig. 1, and rotated, the tools being moved together to swell the tread in the region of an apparent fault. Internal inspection is carried out with the table raised to the position shown in Fig. 2, during which raising the tools are automatically moved to a position within the beads, and a strip-light 45 is advanced. The tools are moved apart spreading the beads, and the illuminated interior is inspected. |
