In ion-exchange water treatment vessels employing upward, counterflow regeneration of the resin, the regeneration fluid is recovered by a pipe network well above the highest level of the fully decompacted resin; essentially, the network has a set of vertical pipes extending into the resin where the pipe ends are fitted with collecting nozzles. In this way, there is no danger of the resin exerting upward pressure on the pipe network during the decompacting operation; this has been known to distort the network to an extent that it remained above the resettled resin. |
