A drive of round-knitting machine has an electric motor, V-belt transmission, its driving pulley is rigidly installed at the shaft of the electric motor, toothed gearing, its driving pinion is installed on the shaft of the driven pulley of the V-belttransmission; vertical drive shaft, on this one the toothed wheel of the toothed gearing is installed, and at its ends cylindrical pinions for kinematical coupling with the mechanisms of the round-knitting machine are rigidly fixed, and the means for decrease of the start torque of the electric motor, this is kinematically connected to the electric motor. The means for decrease of the start torque of the electric motor installed at the driving pulley coaxially to it had body with radial slots, friction shoes and compression springs placed in the slots, and the drum fixed without possibility of motion between the shoes.
