A television receiver sequentially transmits the same transmission commands to external devices (1b-3b) connected via IEEE (1394) and HDMI lines to monitor the DC levels of HDMI terminals connected to the HDMI lines, thereby identifying HDMI lines used for transmission of response commands issued from the BD recorders (1b-3b) in response to the transmission commands. Then, the television receiver automatically switching, in accordance with the operations of the BD recorders (1b-3b), the IEEE (1394) and HDMI lines used by the BD recorders (1b-3b), thereby automatically determining, as to the plurality of external devices connected to the television receiver via the IEEE (1394) and HDMI lines, which HDMI lines the external devices are connected to. This can eliminate conventional necessity of performing troublesome settings and hence improve the user operability. |
