The ends of a gear shaft 6 are mounted in recesses 5 formed in the end of a tubular element 2 located within a housing 1, the shaft being retained by a further annular element 7. Centring ribs 3 are provided on the housing 1. Alternatively, the recesses 5 could be capped by appropriate projections formed on the housing 1. Axial movement of the shaft 6 may be limited by the engagement of the end of the shaft with the housing wall, or, as shown in Fig. 3, a member on the shaft 6 may be located between the tubular element 2 and a wall 8 formed integral therewith. In a further modification, axial projections 26, 27, Fig. 5, formed on a tubular element 10 are provided with axial recesses into which the ends of shafts 14, 17, 21 and 24 are inserted and retained by projections 28, 29 on a surrounding housing 12.</p> |
