In a typewriter having a magazine of continuously rotating type-levers in a unit 1 which is moved along a printing line to effect serial printing, a selected type-slug 15 on a type-lever 2 forms the armature of an electromagnet 12 which is energized only while the type-lever to be selected is passing under polepieces 13 which have an end face sloping away from the type slugs in the direction of rotation of the magazine. The electromagnet 12 has a U-shaped core and the polepieces 13 align with flat areas (15b) on either side of the type 15, Fig. 5, A non-magnetic limit stop 16 prevents early movement of a type-lever and the slugs do not contact the polepieces. |
