In a low-pressure chilled casting process to manufacture lightweight metal wheels, the rim base section and spoke casting operation is effected through a range of casting inlets that are independent of and separate to other locally solidified hub zones. The hot metal charge is forced by gas to the zone between the spokes and rim base at an accelerated rate.
