The invention relates to a window element 1 for insertion in a window apertu re 7 in an outer skin 5 of a means of transport, in particular of an aircraft. According to the invention, the window element 1 has a cover pane 10 which ends substantially flush with the outer skin 5 to achieve a fluid-dynamically favourable, largely flat shape of the outer skin 5. As a result of the presence of an additional back-ventilated cover pane 10 arranged in front of the actual outer pane 26 of the window element 1, a fluid-dynamical ly favourable integration of the window element 1 into the outer skin 5 of an aircraft fuselage airframe is achieved. Any deformation, especially any buckling of the outer pane 26 of the window element 1 as a result of a pressure difference between the interior of the aircraft fuselage airframe and the exterior space at high flying altitudes has no fluid-dynamically disadvantageous effect as a consequence of the outer pane 26 being covered by the previously - arranged cover pane 10 which is inserted substantially flush into the outer skin 5 of the aircraft fuselage airframe. Any deformation of the cover pane 10 is largely eliminate d by the back-ventilation. In addition, the components for forming the window element 1 according to th e invention can be produced and assembled easily from the production technology point of view.
