A hydraulic pump comprises a drive-shaft 19 rotatable in a central aperture 28 of a cylinder block 27, and on which are mounted two plates 22, 23 at least one of which is inclined to the axis of the shaft, such that the axial forces are absorbed by the plates. Plug member 41 and plunger 42 of the plunger assembly 40, abut slidably and sealingly the surfaces 22a, 23a of the plates, and define a pumping chamber 44 in the cylinders 32, which are disposed about the central aperture Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). Oil is introduced into the pumping chamber by means of the intake 13, channels 60, 61, arcuate part 47, and passage 46, whilst the members 41, 42 relatively move apart; the arcuate part 47 in plate 22 Fig. (not shown) connects passage 46 and channel 61 during the outward movement of the plunger assembly only. With 47 closed, inward movement of the plunger assembly forces oil through the check valves (56) Fig. (not shown) and an annular recess 31 to the outlet 14. In another embodiment Fig. 4 (not shown) two opposed swashplates are inclined to the axis of the shaft and each cylinder has two plungers which draw oil through arcuate parts formed in the swash-plates. In a further embodiment Fig. 5 (not shown) the cylinder block is axially slidable, and each cylinder has a spill part closed by the plunger 42 on the discharge stroke at a point determined by the axial locatic of the cylinder block. |
