A coloured glaze is produced on bone china by using a basic glaze and a pigment, the basic glaze having a composition within the limits of the following Seger formula (in moles) the mixture of glaze and pigment being applied as an aqueous suspension, the glaze then being fired below 1040‹ C. The pigment which may be mixed with the frit may be a copper compound in an amount equivalent to 1-4% (of the weight of the basic glaze), or 3-7% by weight of selenium compound or metallic selenium or cadmium compound (all calculated as the respective oxide). The pigment may be CuO, CuCO 3 , Cu(NO 3 ) 2 , CuSO 4 , CdSe, CdS, CdCO 3 , CdO, ZnSe, Na 2 Se or Se. |
