The device has holding units (36, 38) which are mounted pivoting in storage cavities (28, 30) of a trunk of a vehicle. The units are deployed in the trunk to hold objects, in a deployed position, when the units are utilized. The units are folded in the cavities, in a folded position, when the units are not utilized. Outer sides of the units and parts of the cavities in which the units are folded have complementary shapes. An independent claim is also included for a storage compartment of a trunk of a motor vehicle having an object holding device.
