The method involves using a device with a digital processing unit (9). A series of measuring points determined for each polygonal flat surface has two points whose projections on each surface in a preset direction belong to each surface edge. The unit produces a digital pattern of each surface by generating segments and/or straight lines based on spherical co-ordinates of the measuring points and calculates surface area of the pattern.
